Bagels of New York

Really, there is no more quinessetially New York food than the bagel. And New York is the place to eat bagels; you have to be really unlucky to get a bad one. Even the bagels sold by the corner pastry cart near the hotel are pretty good. This is in contrast to my home, San Francisco, where the average "bagel" is bread with a hole in the center (blame it on Noah's).  In fact, the only decent bagels to be found in the city are from House of Bagels on Geary.

New York: the "Inter" in "International"

One food area in which NYC is superior to San Francisco is the breadth of its international food offerings, and the pecularity of them. When most people think international food in NY they think Little Italy and Chinatown. Little Italy has been steadily shrinking for the last few years, now consisting of probably just 5 blocks of restaurants, and a handful of delis. Still, they still put up a nice Christmas display.

Markets of Manhattan, Part III: Diverse Places

Of course, since we were in NY, we had to stop by the original Dean & Deluca location. Sadly, at this point it looks like every other Dean & Deluca location. Worse yet, they had moka pot gaskets in every size except the one I needed. Perhaps fortunately for his larder, Dave did not find any more mustard here.
