Three Intensely Ethnic Cookbooks from the SFPL

My sweetie recently discovered that the San Francisco Public Library actually has a very impressive collection of cookbooks, and that we can order others through inter-library loan.  So she's started borrowing; what better way to find out if we want to own a cookbook?

Well, it didn't take long for our friendly Bookmobile staff to learn our tastes and start pulling books for us on their own.  Following are brief reviews of 3 cookbooks they lent us. Read on!

Mediterranean Food: September in the Bay Area

September brings us a double play in delicious Mediterranean food.  The Armenian Food Festival is next weekend, September 18-20, at St. Gregory's Armenian Church on Brotherhood Way.  The following weekend, the Annunciation Cathedral on Valencia is having its annual Greek Food Festival.  Mmmmm ... delicious filo pastry.  See you there!

This weekend in Greece

This weekend is the Greek Food Festival at the Annunciation Cathedral on Valencia Street. The Greek festival is San Francisco's largest food festival, and I think the one which really started the trend of so many churches having food festivals as fundraisers.

I recommend going on Friday night, or early on Saturday. By Sunday afternoon, a lot of dishes are sold out, and by 7pm on Saturday the buffet line wraps around the building. Make sure to do the wine tasting -- some of the Greek wines will surprise you -- and to save room for loukamathes (and maybe take some home).
