The Great Aluminum Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, a group of enterprising manufacturers introduced a new type of pan to the United States. These pans were lighter, cheaper, and conducted heat more evenly. They were perfect for a new generation of small families which were having to learn to cook without servants or large groups of relatives. These pans were made of a new metal called "Aluminum".

Markets of Manhattan, Part III: Diverse Places

Of course, since we were in NY, we had to stop by the original Dean & Deluca location. Sadly, at this point it looks like every other Dean & Deluca location. Worse yet, they had moka pot gaskets in every size except the one I needed. Perhaps fortunately for his larder, Dave did not find any more mustard here.

Zabar's is the original gourmet market of New York, and is credited with inspiring Dean & Deluca, The Silver Palate and many of NY's pioneering gourmet markets of the 60's.
