Ten Reasons to Vote for Obama

First of all, voter registration deadline in most states is Monday, so get moving and get yourself registered.

Second, I'm voting for Barak Obama in a few weeks. I thought that I'd share ten of the reasons why.

  1. Which America? Of the candidates, Obama represents America as it is now: multiethnic, self-made, and struggling with a world of complex issues. McCain, on the other hand, represents America of 50 years ago: privelged, racially segregated, and painting everything in shades of black and white.
  2. Three Words: President Sarah Palin
  3. It's the Economy, Stupid: Obama realizes that the American economy is built on a large and prosperous middle class, and wants to start growing the economy again from the bottom up, parly by taxing the poor less and the rich more. His opponent believes in government handouts for the wealthiest Americans; the same policy of Reagan and the Bushes which has seen the gap between rich and poor triple in the last 25 years, and the American economy in continuous decline.
  4. No Torture: Obama stood up against the torture committed by US personnel under orders from Rumsfield at Guatanamo Bay. No civilized nation practices torture. But McCain supports the torture and will use it himself if given the opportunity. You would think a Vietnam POW would know the horror of torture, but I guess McCain wants some kind of revenge.
  5. President "Gun-toting, bible-thumping" Palin
  6. Stop Endless War: another four years of Republicans means another four years of war. Our country can't afford the wars we're already in. Not only is it crushing our economy, but over a hundred thousand people (including five thousand Americans) have been killed in Iraq and Afganistan in the last seven years. McCain and Palin have made clear their desire to invade Iran. When does it stop?
  7. Got Hope? For the first time in my voting lifetime, we have a potential President who's actually inspirational. Someone who wants us not just to vote against something, but for something. A candidate who isn't afraid to change his mind based on facts, or even make unpopular decisions if that's what's needed to make America and the world a better place. It's the reason why more 19-year-olds are registering to vote in this election than have for the last 20 years. I want the future, not more of the past.
  8. President "I don't read a newspaper" Palin
  9. No More Drilling: in a 180-degree reversal from his original campaign, McCain is now the "oil drilling president". He's sold his soul to Big Oil for campaign funds, even though he knows that more drilling won't help Americans at all: just enrich the oil companies. We need new energy solutions.
  10. Most Importantly: Within the next four years, the economy will likely hit lows not seen since the 1930's, and the ocean levels will rise when Greenland melts. We'll be facing crises like none America has ever seen in it's history. Who do you want running the country in our time of crisis: President Barak Obama, or President Sarah Palin?
I know who I want.
