Yes, so Portugal Day was 3 months ago and it's much to late for you to attend. But ... they will have another one next year, during the first or second week of June, so make sure to put it on your calendar!

As you enter San Jose History Park you're greeted by a parade playing the Portuguese anthem and waving flags. They proceed to a gazebo, where musical and dancing events will go on all day.

But here's what you came for: the food booths! With only 3 Portuguese restaurants in California, here's your only chance to have delicious Portuguese food this year. And cheap, too! Hope you got here early; it's a one day event, and the booths start running out of some items at 1:30pm.

We'll start with the traditional bacalao casserole: potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, olives and salt cod slow-cooked together -- only $6, with delicious potato bread.

Kris isn't into bacalao, so she has a roasted pork sandwich instead ($5).

Since this is our one chance this year, we'll load up, this time with grilled sardines ... a huge plate of them with pepper sauce, potatoes and more bread for only $8.

Finally, we want some of Portugal's terrific sweet baking. On the left is sweet bread (Massa Sovada) with orange, and on the right is a donut (malasada). We liked the massa so much, we bought a whole loaf ($4). It made fantastic french toast.
Mark your calendar for the Saturday nearest June 10 next year!
