Of course, since we were in NY, we had to stop by the original Dean & Deluca location. Sadly, at this point it looks like every other Dean & Deluca location. Worse yet, they had moka pot gaskets in every size except the one I needed. Perhaps fortunately for his larder, Dave did not find any more mustard here.

The Grand Central Market, a smorgasbord of food vendors in a side vault in Grand Central Station, appears to be relatively new. It includes a fishmonger, a baker, a branch of Murray's Cheese, a couple of fancy delis and other prepared foods places, and best of all a branch of Penzey's spices, all in little kiosks. We picked up some quiche-like "crostate" at one of the places there and ate them on the way home. We also got Penzey's mild red pepper flakes on Dave's advice.
Finally, if you really want to cook in New York, you'll want to load your pockets up with cash and head down to Bridge Kitchenware and lay out for some serious professional cookware and bakeware. Need odd-sized loaf pans? Pullman pans? 20 liter stockpots? Spiral vegetable peelers? Cooking tools even I can't identify? Here it is, but it's not cheap, unless you hit the sale shelves.
