
The good news: Club Deluxe (the jazz bar) on Haight Street is serving tasty and authentic Neopolitan pizza.
The bad news: you can never tell when. Supposedly, pizza is available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but the actual schedule is much more erratic than that ...
Chef Giovanni Ioccarino is a second generation Italian-American, and definitely has the heart of a pizzaiolo. I had a simple tomato, mozzarella and anchovy pizza, and it would have stood up to competition in Italy.
However, I have yet to predict accurately when I can eat pizza at Club Deluxe. Best thing to do is either call ahead, or duck into the bar and look to see if the "pizza" neon light is lit. But have a backup plan.
Club Deluxe, in a burst of eclectic internationalism, is also making caiprinhas now.
