This is an interesting viewpoint, and I agree (but it all involves science, whether you want to admit or not!) I definitely have a scientific bent, so it makes sense that I am attracting to baking more than cooking. I find cooking imprecise, but lately have starting 'winging it' a lot more often. It is liberating, but I'll never be an artist.
Well, admittedly I "wing it" a lot because I'm impatient and tend to be ADD about cooking. One trap I get into a lot is failing to add up the cooking times listed in a recipe, and then end up eating dinner at 9pm. Somewhat less often, I have to beg my wife to run out to the store and get a last ingredient after I've started the pan. So there are drawbacks to being -- or living with -- an "artist".
