In addition to being, arguably, the foodie capital of the USA, New York City is darn close to the New Jersey home of Dave "Pepperhead". So we invited him down to Manhattan to spend a Foodie Sunday with us. Any good Foodie Sunday, of course, begins with brunch, and based on a mix of reviews and locations we picked Tartine in the West Village. It turned out to be a good choice; Tartine was the best breakfast we had in NYC. We were doubly fortunate in that, at least in January, New Yorkers like to go to Sunday brunch late, like 11am. Since in SF you either get to popular spots before 10am or wait until after 1pm, we got to beat the crowd.

And at Tartine, beating the crowd is important, since it only has seven tiny tables jammed so close together that the waiter has to ask some patrons to pass food to each other. But it's worth the crowding. Dave and I had a salmon Benedict thing which was delicious, and included some really good potatoes. Kris had the brioche French toast, which was equally good. Tartine also wins points for presentation, as you can see.
