Cock-a-Doodle is a sunny brunch spot off of 9th and Washington near Broadway in Oakland. When buying our new fridge at the original Sears, we thought we'd take brunch nearby and visited this place a couple of times.
We discovered that it's a great place for brunch if you're waiting for Sears to open on Sunday. The servers act like they're willing to keep refilling your coffee forever, and as long as you're there before the churches get out (11am) then the place is uncrowded.
The food is an ecletic mix of international, Mexican, Black and pure California breakfast dishes. They have several interesting eggy things (salmon hash, eggs over chile relleno), but their real effort goes into the french toast and pancakes, including stuffed and graham-cracker-breaded french toast. The coffee is decent and they serve British tea (why my wife picked the place). What's not to like?
Best of all, if you're late and Cock-a-Doodle is full up, there's another brunch place less than a block away which looks pretty interesting, too. Presumably Cock-a-Doodle serves lunch during the week, but we know nothing about it.
